Ha Tran
Founder And Managing Director
Ha Tran is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and a seasoned professional with experience at top-tier organizations. She began her career at Microsoft, where she managed a team in the Sales and Marketing division. After stepping away to focus on raising her two sons, Nike and Dunkan, she served as Director of Operations at a company providing cloud-based consulting and finance software to Fortune 500 companies.
From a young age, Ha’s passion for basketball set her apart. While other girls were playing with Barbie dolls, she was on the court competing with the boys. Despite standing only 5 feet tall, she proved her skill and determination, becoming a two-time All-KingCo Conference point guard. She went on to play one year at Merritt College, where her exceptional performance earned her spots on the All-California, All-Conference, and All-Academic teams. During that season, her team achieved 32 wins—a record that still stands in California JUCO history. Ha earned a full scholarship to play Division I basketball at Florida A&M but ultimately chose to stay in the Bay Area to complete her degree at UC Berkeley.
While at Cal, Ha began sharing her love for the game by coaching middle school basketball and softball. She also spent her summers coaching at Seattle Sonics Youth Basketball Camps, a role she continued while working full-time at Microsoft. Her dedication led to her promotion as the Camp Director for both the Seattle Sonics and Storm programs. Over the years, Ha has coached in youth leagues, AAU, middle schools, and high schools, bringing her expertise and enthusiasm to players of all levels.
Today, Ha is fulfilling a lifelong dream by returning to her home country to teach youth the game of basketball. Through her passion and dedication, she hopes to inspire the next generation to embrace the values and joy the sport can bring. Beyond basketball, Ha wants to instill the importance of giving back and build a culture of helping others, empowering youth to create positive change in their communities.
Ha is especially proud of the growing HoopitForward family, with many staff members returning year after year and past campers stepping up to serve as Junior Assistants. Their commitment is a testament to the positive impact of HoopitForward and the values it aims to instill.
